Southern Guilford’s band program has seen steady growth over the past four years as our student involvement has almost doubled. We now have over fifty students who perform in our marching and concert bands, percussion ensemble and color guard. In addition to supporting our football team, the marching band also travels to various local competitions. We try our best each year to deliver high energy, crowd-pleasing half-time shows including themes like Michael Jackson and Earth Wind and Fire. The Marching Band also performs at community events such as park and business grand openings as well as the yearly Greensboro Holiday Parade.
As exciting as our growth has been, it has come with its own challenges. Due to the recent economic situation, local and state governments have been able to fund the arts less and less each year. Recent announcements have indicated that we will once again receive little or no financial support during the next school year. We are a non-profit organization and have no other means of support other than traditional fund raising. Student fund raising is simply not enough to provide new music, instruments, and cover travel costs in addition to each student’s music supplies. For this reason we must turn to the community for support.
As an individual, there are many ways you can help support the Band.
